Anyway, my friend Dale introduced me to what is commonly called poi and I will be calling sling socks. The idea is to twirl pretty weighted socks in various ways so it looks cool. Some cultures apparently start the ends on fire. I will not be starting the ends on fire.

It's really fun but it's also draws a lot of attention when you do it in public, which in New York is everywhere since it is definitely not an inside sport.

Dale is much better than I am, since I just started this week. As he was slinging his multicolored sling socks all over in time to the music on his ipod, a small crowd of school children gathered to watch.

When they left I had some important news for him. "Dude," I  informed his as kindly as I could, "you totally just made those kids gay."

I bet that's a lot of fun! At least it's fun seeing you swinging those socks around.

You may remember some of the poi fire spinners at Beltane, or was it too wet that weekend for them to be spinning?

Here's some great sites for supplies and stuff.http://www.seriousjuggling.com/poi-lighted-poi-meteors.htm
(They have cool, very gay poi lol)

Why thank you kindly :-) I enjoy the darkness of Henry Rollins and his spoken word brilliance!

And I may actually *have* a set of practice poi for you, acquired from an event lost and found by a friend who JUST happened to stop by and tell me a story of her epic fail fire spinning mishap a few weeks ago. We have to hang onto them for another month or so until we're sure no one is going to miss them!

You know, I wish I had read this entry before Sunday. I've been spinning for a few years. Remind me next lunch and I'll bring rope to craft you a few "two finger" notch practice poi.

This time I promise no one will demand you hold a blue squishy spider in order to speak.
